Puppy Mills |

|
| Puppy mills are a national disgrace! There are hundreds of thousands of puppies raised each year in commercial kennels. The conditions of these kennels are unbelievably inhumane. The females are bred at the first heat, and every heat cycle after, until their poor body becomes worn out, and they can't produce anymore. They are then disposed of, either by being bashed in the head, shot, sold to a lab, or just dumped. These poor creatures have often not reached 5 years of age! They suffer from filthy, matted hair, rotten teeth, ulcerated eyes, feet and leg problems from living their lives in a wire cage that is often crowded with 40 to 50 other dogs. They are never allowed out to play, and their feet never touch the ground. They spend their entire life in the cage, There is often no heat in the winter, and often the pups freeze to death, and in the summer, they literally cook in the cages. They are often "debarked" by shoving a steel rod down their throat to rupture their vocal cords. The puppies are taken from their mothers at 5 to 8 weeks of age and sold to brokers, who in turn sell them to pet stores. They are packed in crates and shipped by truck or air without proper food, water, heat or ventilation. The pups are often ill with diseases, have genetic defects and/or emotional problems. If you buy a puppy from a pet store make sure you ask to see paperwork pertaining to where the pup came from.Buy one that has come from a reputable breeder only! You are setting yourself up for thousands of dollars in medical bills and heartbreak if the pup came from a puppy mill. Currently there are seven well known "puppy mill" states. They are Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. | |
